As Western Australia’s lead agency regulating the State’s resources sector, the Department of Mines and Petroleum is committed to ensuring the sector is developed and managed responsibly and sustainably for the benefit of all Western Australians.
Industry is required to adopt world-best practice and to operate to high standards that ensure health, safety and the environment are not compromised.
To help showcase that our nationally significant industry is not only sustainable, but also meets the environmental and social balance that is expected of industry today, the department has established the annual Awards for Excellence.
The Awards for Excellence event brings together the prestigious Golden Gecko environmental awards for excellence with the newly established Community Partnership Resources Sector Award recognising constructive community partnerships providing positive outcomes.
By recognising exceptional advances and innovations throughout the resources sector, the department seeks to encourage higher industry standards to help develop and maintain community confidence in the sustainability of mineral and petroleum activities.
The inaugural gala event was held on October 27, 2016 at the Pan Pacific Hotel.
The Community Partnership Resources Sector Award recognises outstanding achievements and leadership in building constructive community partnerships that provide positive outcomes and promote strong guiding behaviour for industry.
The award publicly recognises partnerships between resource companies and communities that extend beyond the normal obligations and requirements to leave a positive and lasting legacy.
That recognition aims to build the reputation of resources and extractive industry operators that are working closely with communities, or community groups, to understand local concerns and issues, provide constructive outcomes, and leave a positive legacy that extends well beyond gaining a social licence to operate.
