The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety is seeking comment from industry on an excess tonnage guideline.

The enhanced guideline is intended to provide clearer direction on the information required from prospecting and exploration licence holders submitting excess tonnage applications.

“In particular, the document provides increased clarity and guidance on the types of evidence of native title consent required for an excess tonnage application.” DMIRS Resource and Environmental Compliance Executive Director Karen Caple said.

“The draft has also been updated to articulate the inclusion of the extraction of fluid or mineral bearing substances relevant to the potash and salt minerals in brine operations in excess tonnage considerations.”

The guideline will be available for public consultation for six weeks and will close on Friday 29 January 2021. Once all submissions are considered, the department will finalise content and advise stakeholders.
