DMP Petroleum and Geothermal Open Day showcases resources sector

Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion will open this year’s Petroleum and Geothermal Open Day.
Date: Monday, 11 August 2014

Western Australia’s resources industry and its social licence to operate will be in the spotlight next month.

Gaining social licence to operate is fast becoming just as important to industry as getting the required licences and regulatory approvals.

This hot topic will be focus of next month’s Petroleum and Geothermal Open Day hosted by the Department of Mines and Petroleum.

Guest speaker Queensland GasFields Commission Chairman John Cotter will take part in a panel discussion on the social licence concept after delivering a presentation on onshore gas projects and their effect on communities.

Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion will deliver the opening address at the annual open day being held this year at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle on Thursday, 11 September.

DMP Director General Richard Sellers will speak on responsible development of the resources sector and Petroleum Division Executive Director Jeff Haworth will deliver a presentation on “CCTV” (Compliance, Consistency, Transparency, Vision).

Other presentations will include acreage release in the Canning, Southern Carnarvon and Officer basins, resource management regulations, well integrity, updates on South West Hub Carbon Capture and Storage and western Officer Basin, and land access guidelines.

The Open Day is also expected to feature exhibits by DMP, Geoscience Australia, the Western Australian Energy Research Alliance, the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia, and the Australian Marine Complex.

The day’s program run from 8.30am to 4.30pm and will be followed by a sundowner.
