DMP Dangerous Goods Officers join police and other agencies in joint operation

Dangerous Goods Officers from the Department of Mines and Petroleum were part of a joint traffic operation held earlier this month targeting the transport industry.

Principal Dangerous Goods Officer Peter Xanthis said the operation also included WA Police, Main Roads, ComCare, Department of Transport and WorkSafe.

“From a DMP perspective, we were focussed on ensuring dangerous goods were being transported safely and securely,” Mr Xanthis said.

“A number of notices were issued as a part of this operation. This included notices regarding required safety equipment.

“In some cases safety equipment had expired or was completely missing.”

The officers also issued notices where the types of dangerous goods being transported were not identified.

“It is a case of reminding drivers and companies about their obligations and the importance of the required paperwork, placarding and personal protective equipment,” Mr Xanthis said.

The operation was held on a stretch of the Great Eastern Highway in Northam between 16 and 22 February.

More information about dangerous goods safety is available from the department’s Resources Safety Division.
