Date: Tuesday, 29 March 2016

Time is running out for anyone wishing to submit an application for this year's Golden Gecko Awards for Environmental Excellence.

The industry renowned award scheme recognises leading practice and innovation as well as acknowledging the outstanding contributions recipients have made to the responsible development of Western Australia's resources.

This year will be the twenty-fifth anniversary of the awards and applicants are therefore being encouraged to get their submissions in on time in order to ensure that they are in with a chance of being part of this historic event.

Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) Executive Director Environment Dr Phil Gorey urged companies to act before the deadline closed.

"The Golden Gecko Awards provide us with an excellent platform to showcase and celebrate those companies which continue to demonstrate innovative approaches towards environmental management," Dr Gorey said.

"It also allows companies to share their experiences with government, industry and the wider community and enhance their reputation as responsible corporate citizens.

"I would urge all companies that continue to promote environmental excellence to submit an entry for this year’s awards before it’s too late."

Entries for this year's Golden Gecko Awards close at 5pm on Friday 8 April 2016.

All submissions will then be assessed by a panel of experts before a Selection Committee comes together to decides the winners.

The award winners will be announced on October 27 at DMP's inaugural Awards For Excellence night, which will also incorporate the new Community Partnership Resources Sector Award.
