Date: Wednesday, 14 October 2015

The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) is holding a stakeholder briefing session in Kalgoorlie on environmental reform and the recently released draft Mining Proposal guidelines.

The Kalgoorlie briefing session on Thursday 5 November will follow a similar session for stakeholders in Perth the day before.

DMP Executive Director Environment Dr Phil Gorey said the two sessions coincide with the eight week consultation period on the draft Guidelines for Mining Proposals in Western Australia.

“The briefing sessions will give stakeholders the opportunity to hear from the environmental officers who developed the guidelines, ask questions and provide direct feedback,” Dr Gorey said.

“They will also cover low impact notifications, the development of online systems and other new environmental reform initiatives at DMP.”

Both sessions run from 9am to noon. They are free events however RSVPs are essential as numbers are limited.

The draft Guidelines for Mining Proposals in Western Australia is available now on the department’s website.

The guidelines are part of the Reforming Environmental Regulation (RER) strategy that is introducing risk and outcome-based framework for environmental regulation.

The consultation period for the guidelines runs until 23 November. Feedback can be sent to mpreformenquiry@dmp.wa.gov.au.
