Report gives insights into Eucla basement stratigraphic drilling program

The latest edition of Fieldnotes has devoted its cover and centre-page spread to the results of the Eucla basement stratigraphic drilling program funded by the Department of Mines and Petroleum’s Exploration Incentive Scheme.
The article provides geological insights from interpretation of the results by
the Geological Survey of Western Australia’s (GSWA) Albany–Fraser Orogen project team.
The results caused a great deal of excitement among academics and explorers at a special one-day workshop in Perth in September.
Fieldnotes also reports on renewed interest in the Perth Basin, focusing on the Senecio and Waitsia discoveries considered to be potentially the biggest onshore conventional gas resource finds in Western Australia since the Dongara discovery in the 1960s.
You can discover new and improved features for the upgraded Western Australian Petroleum and Geothermal Information Management System (WAPIMS) that now includes the Perth Core Library database.
There is also a report on GSWA’s collaboration with the Centre for Exploration Targeting at the University of Western Australia to investigate the West Kimberley region’s mineral potential.
Other items of interest include the mineral prospectivity of the King Leopold Orogen and Lennard Shelf, new hafnium isotopic data on the early Pilbara crust, and the addition of a Statewide cadastral layer to GSWA’s GeoVIEW.WA online mapping tool.
