New form for small mining operations now ready to use

Improvements to criteria and low level of operational risk recognised
Date: Tuesday, 17 April 2018

The revised Mining Proposal and Mine Closure Plan for Small Mining Operations form is now available for use.

Proponents should contact the relevant Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety Environmental Officer for the region in which the operation is proposed to confirm the use of this form.

Contacts can be located on the Environment Inspectorate Map.

A draft of the new form was first released for public consultation in September 2017 and has been revised based on two rounds of stakeholder feedback:

  • Round 1: Response to submissions Draft Mining Proposal and Mine Closure Plan for Low Impact Mining Operations
  • Round 2: Response to submissions Draft Mining Proposal and Mine Closure Plan for Low Impact Mining Operations

The second round closed on 7 February 2018 and DMIRS thanks all stakeholders for their feedback.

The new form includes minor improvements to the criteria for a low impact mining operation, recognising the low level of operational risk for small mining operations.

No changes are being proposed to the existing Programme of Work – Prospecting Application form.

Any further feedback from people using the new form can be provided to Environmental Officers.
