What is freedom of information (FOI)?

Safety-related documents

The Freedom of Information Act 1992 gives every person the right to seek access to documents held by government agencies.

Documents that may be held by the department’s Resources Safety Division include:

  • written material
  • diaries
  • emails
  • plans
  • drawings
  • photographs
  • electronic images
  • film
  • any information stored in an electronic format.

The department aims to make documents available as soon as possible and at the least possible cost. Whenever possible, documents will be provided outside FOI process.

Refer to Freedom of Information for further information on the concept and an application form for freedom of information requests outside of Resources Safety.

Refer to Applying for access to Resources Safety documents to more information and to access the form specific to Resources Safety.

The Freedom of Information Act 1992 is available from the State Law Publisher.
