Tickets are now available for the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety’s gala awards event recognising outstanding contributions in environment, community partnerships and safety and health in Western Australia’s resources sector.
For the first time the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) will be presenting three separate awards for excellence at the 2017 Awards for Excellence event.
They are the Golden Gecko Awards for Environmental Excellence, the Community Partnership Award for outstanding partnerships between resources companies and the community they operate in, and the Safety and Health Resources Sector Awards, recognising milestone contributions to safety and health across the resources sector.
The Awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel in Perth on Thursday 26 October 2017, following case study presentations from some of the nominees.
The Safety and Health Resources Sector Awards received a total of 25 nominations received across three categories.
Executive Director Resources Safety Simon Ridge said the quality of the submissions has been very high.
"The innovations we have seen are very interesting. While we are still going through the assessment process, we are looking forward to sharing some of these innovations with industry, helping to advance safety and health standards in our State’s resources sector," Mr Ridge said.
"Projects range from technological solutions for identified problems, improvements in efficiency, to processes that expand on the traditional occupational health and safety considerations for workers.”
The five eligible Golden Gecko Awards for Environmental Excellence entries come from a wide range of resources companies from across the State, ranging from the South West to the Pilbara.
The awards are judged on commitment to environmental excellence, demonstrated excellent environmental outcomes, community engagement, and innovation.
The Community Partnership Resources Sector Award received 10 entries.
“It is important to recognise outstanding achievements and leadership in building constructive community partnerships that provide positive outcomes and promote strong guiding behaviour within the resources sector,” Dr Ivor Roberts, Executive Director Mineral Titles said.
Free presentations by selected nominees for the Golden Gecko, Community Partnership and Safety and Health awards will commence at 2.00pm, on Thursday 26 October at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel, followed by the Awards Ceremony registrations and refreshments at 5.30pm.
Official awards presentations will start at 6.00 pm sharp and will be followed by networking and refreshments.
Tickets for the ceremony are $60 and can be booked online. Bookings close Thursday, 19 October.
