Innovation in onshore petroleum in Western Australia will be the theme under the spotlight at this year’s annual Petroleum Open Day to be held on Thursday 15 September 2016.
Hosted by the Department of Mines and Petroleum’s (DMP) Petroleum Division and the Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA), the open day will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
The annual event attracts more than 250 delegates, providing the department with an opportunity to update industry on the latest developments, provide feedback to stakeholders and discuss future trends.
As well as DMP staff, representatives of the Western Australian Energy Research Alliance (WA:ERA), Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (PESA), Geoscience Australia (GA), the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) and the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) will be on hand.
The event will be officially opened by the Minister for Mines and Petroleum Sean L’Estrange.

- Innovation in the Department of Mines and Petroleum Tim Griffin (acting Director General - DMP)
- Trends in petroleum – Jeffrey Haworth (Executive Director – Petroleum Division)
- Resource Guidelines – Lynn Reid (Principal Petroleum Technologist - Petroleum Division)
- Safety in petroleum - Simon Ridge (Executive Director – Resources Safety Division)
- Innovation and Transformation Julie DeJong (Executive Director – Strategic Project)
- Canning Basin – a new Look – Leon Normore (Senior Geologist – GSWA)
- Land Access Canning Basin – Eric Streitberg (Managing Director - Buru Energy)
- Innovation in a constrained environment – Michelle Andrews (Deputy Director General - DMP)
- National Energy Resources Australia – Miranda Taylor (CEO - Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Growth Centre)
A panel session will be held with representatives from shires and onshore industry, as well as DMP staff for a Q&A session.
An Environment and Safety Workshop will also be held on the day and work stations will be available for attendees to try the department’s new online systems and provide feedback.
Registration for the event can be completed online. Tickets cost $110 and the fee includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea, and a networking sundowner.
