DMP confirms fatality occurred in the State’s North West at Woodie Woodie.
Department of Mines and Petroleum investigations inspectors are on site at the Woodie Woodie manganese mine to conduct an investigation into the fatal incident that occurred yesterday.
The deceased was employed by contract company Rod Mitchell Transport and Exploration.
State Mining Engineer Andrew Chaplyn said initial information indicates that the fitter was undertaking maintenance on the dozer and was attempting to remove the belly plate which fell on him.
He said the dozer had been used to clear land for exploration drilling.
The two DMP inspectors are likely to remain on site until the end of the week.
The department is unable to comment further on the incident now that the investigation is underway.
