Date: Thursday, 03 August 2017

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety is holding information sessions in Kalgoorlie on 14 August for mining professionals interested in becoming a mines inspector in the Goldfields.

Mines Safety Director and State Mining Engineer Andrew Chaplyn will be at the sessions and said the Kalgoorlie inspectorate includes specialists in occupational safety and health, process, mechanical and electrical engineering, and mining technicians.

"We are encouraging mining professionals from these specialist fields who may be interested in opportunities at the department to come along," Mr Chaplyn said.

"The department offers an innovative and diverse workplace, along with opportunities for professional development.

"There is also a focus on flexible work arrangements to help ensure staff have a positive work/life balance."

Mr Chaplyn has previously lived and worked in the Goldfields and said the region has played an important role in his career.

"There are few places in Western Australia where mining is more important, or more a part of the community, than in the Goldfields," Mr Chaplyn said.

"It has played an important role in shaping my career and I would encourage anyone interested in becoming a mines safety inspector to look at opportunities in the region."

The information sessions are on 14 August. The day session runs from 10am to 4pm at the Kalgoorlie offices of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.

The evening session will be held between 6pm and 8pm at the Kalgoorlie Overland Motel.

While the event is free to attend, registrations are encouraged via RSDComms@dmirs.wa.gov.au
