The WA State Government approved the transfer of the mining and petroleum royalty collection and administration functions from the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) to RevenueWA (part of the Department of Finance).
The WA Minister for Finance Tony Buti MLA made the announcement in Parliament on Wednesday 23 June 2021.
Integrating the existing knowledge and expertise of DMIRS’ royalty collection function with the specialised information technology systems, knowledge and information sharing networks of RevenueWA will enhance the State’s royalty collection and auditing process.
The move is in keeping with New South Wales and Queensland who in recent years have moved their royalty collection and auditing responsibilities from mining and industry related departments to their State Revenue agencies.
DMIRS will continue to be responsible for royalty policy and legislation functions.
DMIRS and RevenueWA are working together to implement this transfer and to ensure it is a seamless transition for all royalty payers.
