A special edition of the Environment eNewsletter has just been released and is dedicated to the Mining Rehabilitation Fund (MRF).
The MRF is now in full swing and there is plenty of good news to share.
As well as providing updates on MRF contributions and the retirement of unconditional performance bonds, the newsletter introduces the Mining Rehabilitation Advisory Panel, the first four sites to be gazetted as abandoned mines, and the development of an abandoned mines policy.
The process for assessing dead tenements with bonds is explained and how the MRF has allowed millions of dollars worth of bonds held against dead tenements to be retired.
The newsletter also explains some of the improvements already made to the way MRF data is collected based on feedback from tenement holders, and plans for consultation on future improvements to the MRF administration and processes.
The regular quarterly edition of the Environment eNewsletter will still be out in December.
