GSWA is committed to creating standardized and well-defined geoscientific vocabularies as a crucial step in ensuring that data can be effectively shared and utilized. This process is guided by the FAIR principle – Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable – and is an ongoing process.
GSWA Vocabularies has four aims:
- Ensure uniform terminology usage with agreed definitions across GSWA datasets.
- Align GSWA terminology with industry and national standards for enhanced accessibility.
- Supply machine-readable vocabularies for seamless migration of systems and data to the cloud within a unified data model.
- Enhance data findability.
150+ vocabularies, including 16,000+ individual concepts, have been identified for compilation. Each vocabulary guided by a Concept Scheme, includes concepts with preferred and alternate labels, notations, and definitions.
GSWA Subject matter experts assist in compiling, reviewing, editing, and validating syntax. Vocabularies are registered with the Australian Government Linked Data Working Group and published on the GSWA VocPrez platform.
Regularly check for updates as assembly and publication continues according to a post-publication governance process. Feedback is encouraged and can be sent to the working group directly: GSWA.vocabularies@dmirs.wa.gov.au
