Royalties Online FAQs

What is Royalties Online?

Royalties Online is a system for Western Australian mineral and petroleum producers to electronically prepare, lodge and view royalty returns and production reports.

You or your company must be a current producer to be considered as a candidate to use this restricted system.

Royalties Online contains:

  • a two year history of lodgements
  • account details
  • projects
  • other users who have access to the same projects
  • outstanding lodgements and communications between the department and yourself
  • information on how to pay royalties
  • royalty payment non compliance information.

Do I need access to Royalties Online?

Only if you are a current mineral or petroleum producer.

How do I access Royalties Online?

Go to Online Systems and select Royalties Online and click on ‘register’.

Note: Each account approved is person-specific and must not be shared.  If another person requires access, they must register themselves separately.

I no longer need access to Royalties Online, what do I do?

Send an email to royalty.returns@dmirs.wa.gov.au providing the user name, name, company and contact details and the department will ensure that user is removed from the system.

I have forgotten my password, how do I access Royalties Online?

I have forgotten my user name, how do I get it?

How do I update my details? Eg. Change my telephone number

Go to Online Systems, select royalties online, select ‘manage my account’ and follow the instructions.

How do I submit a royalty return?

Log into the royalties online and select the ‘royalty return’ tab.

This tab will display all the projects active for the registered users. To enter the royalty return for a specific project, select the project name on the left hand side of the screen which will then expand to display all the periods.

Select the period you need to report on and expand the product header. Once you can view all the fields, enter the required details, which are highlighted in yellow.

Then click on ‘lodge return’.

I do not need to make a royalty payment during the current quarter, do I need to lodge a royalty return?

Yes.  If you have lodged a royalty return for previous periods, a subsequent return is required even though it may be a nil return.

There is a ‘lodge nil return’ button that can be selected for each project/quarter.

How do I change details on a previously lodged return?

Select the project/quarter and expand the relevant product to view by clicking on the blue product header.

Click the ‘change details’ button and a new line item for that product will appear. Enter the new updated details, not the difference, when making adjustments to a previously lodged return.

How do I submit a Production Report?

Log into the Royalties Online system and select the ‘production report’ tab.

If you are required to lodge a Production Report, a ‘Production Report’ tab will display all the active projects for the registered users. To enter the production report for a specific project, select the project name on the left hand side of the screen, which will then expand to display all the periods.

Select the period you need to report on and expand the product header. Once you can view all the fields, enter the required details.

Then click on ‘lodge all’

I have not produced during the current quarter, do I need to lodge a Production Report?

Yes.  If you have lodged a Production Report for previous periods, a subsequent report is required for every tenement even though it may be a nil report.

If the entire project has nil production, select ‘lodge all as nil’.

Otherwise, Royalties Online provides you the facility to select which tenements you need to report nil.

How do I change details on a previously lodged report?

Select the project/quarter and expand the relevant product to view by clicking on the blue header.

Enter the new full updated details, not the difference, when making adjustments to a previously lodged report.

I need to amend a lodgement older than two years, how do I do this?

Royalty returns and Production Reports cannot be amended online if they are older than two years. If you require data prior to two years, please contact the department’s Royalties Branch on +61 8 9222 3333 or via email to royalty.returns@dmirs.wa.gov.au.
