Applications under the Freedom of Information Act 1992.
Everyone in Western Australia has the right to request to see information held by our state government agencies.
What can you request?
Information that you can request includes:
- written materials, diaries, email, plans, drawings, photographs, films; and
- information stored in an electronic format.
We aim to make the material you request available as quickly and as cheaply as possible. Where we can, we make documents available outside the freedom of information process, but we are obliged to consider:
- the workings of Government;
- confidentiality; and
- the rights of third parties.
Because of this, some documents or parts of documents may be exempt from release. We do not consider your reasons for requesting access to information when processing your application.

We encourage you to contact us before submitting your application. Our Freedom of Information Coordinators can give you information on how to apply and can confirm if the information you are seeking can be provided under a Freedom of Information application.

About your application
Your application must:

- include a current address in Australia;
- include a signed and dated statement of authority if you are applying for information on someone else’s behalf;
- contain enough information that we can identify the documents you are requesting;

- be accompanied by an application fee if you are requesting information about someone else (non-personal) or that belongs to someone else.
Cost of applying
We are committed to providing documents at the lowest possible cost, so every effort is made to keep charges to a minimum.
Under the FOI Act, DMIRS must receive an application fee of $30.00 for non-personal applications before the request for access can be considered. Additional charges may apply for processing applications. The charges are calculated on the basis of 20c per page for photocopying and $30 per hour for processing time.
There are no fees or charges payable for providing an applicant with access to personal information about the applicant or amendment of personal information about the applicant.
