Geological and Resources Databases
The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) website contains an enormous range of downloadable reports and maps in a variety of formats as well as online spatial and textual databases that have custom query functionality.
Also available are online application systems for many mineral and petroleum regulatory approval processes. A significant number of paper-based regulatory processes have already been phased-out and after June 2016, use of online systems for lodging most applications and compliance reports will be compulsory.
The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) website announcements facility provides reports on exploration results, production and financial status from all companies listed on the ASX.
There are also a number of commercial online databases that contain resource company information.
Other Organisations to assist investors into WA
DMP has provided a list of government and commercial organisations as assistance to investors, however we recommend independent searches for specific investor’s requirements.
Government Organisations
The Department of State Development (DSD) works closely with industry, communities and government agencies, including DMP, to coordinate the development of major resource, industrial and infrastructure projects and works to attract strategic investment.
The Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) is Australia’s corporate, markets and financial services regulator. One of its prime roles is to register companies in Australia.
The Foreign Investment Review Board administers foreign investment into Australia, including resources.
Commercial Organisations
The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) is one of the world’s leading equity trading exchange which hosts many mineral and petroleum listings.
The Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) is the peak national body representing Australia’s oil and gas exploration and production industry.
The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia represents the collective interests of companies involved in minerals and energy exploration, production and processing in Western Australia.

The Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) represents many exploration companies, small to medium mining companies and service companies in Australia.
