The Joe Lord Core Library in Kalgoorlie will be a key focus of the Geological Survey of Western Australia’s (GSWA) Goldfields Open Day on 10 November.
Free presentations and a core viewing session will run from 1-4.30pm at the library on the corner of Broadwood and Hunter Streets, West Kalgoorlie.
In the evening, free talks will be presented as part of the Raglan Drilling Geology Lecture Series at the Hannans Club.
GSWA Executive Director Dr Rick Rogerson will introduce the presentations preceding the core viewing at the core library:
- GSWA Senior Geoscientist Matt De Paoli will discuss the Kalgoorlie Stratigraphy Project.
- KCGM Senior Exploration Geologist David Nixon will deliver a talk on deep drilling on the Golden Mile.
After the presentations, guests can view a display featuring core from a deep Golden Mile stratigraphic hole, a comparison hole through similar stratigraphy from Kambalda, and other holes from the GSWA Kalgoorlie collection showing textures and lithological components typically found in rocks of the Eastern Goldfields.
Core from the vicinity of the Nova–Bollinger nickel deposit will also be on display before the library closes at 4.30pm.
Anyone interested in GSWA online database training is invited to attend sessions running from 9am-4pm at the Goldfields Institute of Technology central campus at 34 Cheetham Street, Kalgoorlie.
This training course is appropriate for all prospectors and geologists wanting to learn more about GSWA’s online systems.
Guests are asked to arrive at the Hannans Club at 44 Brookman Street, Kalgoorlie by 5.30pm for a 6pm start of the Raglan Series lectures:
