The Department of Mines and Petroleum’s (DMP) September quarter Approvals Performance Report showed that almost two thirds of mining tenure applications during the period were lodged online.
Of these, Exploration Licence applications had the highest rate of online lodgement compared to paper based submission.
Of the 406 Exploration Licence applications received by the department in the September quarter, 79 per cent were lodged online.
Executive Director Strategic Programs Julie de Jong said the increasing uptake of DMP online systems was pleasing as the department moves towards its target of having all approvals and transactions with customers undertaken online by mid-2016.
“More transactions will become available online in the coming months as the department progresses towards its target of establishing a seamless online system that delivers a more efficient approvals process,” Mrs de Jong said.
The September quarter approvals report shows that the department continued to exceed approval performance targets for all but two application types.
DMP’s target is to process more than 80 per cent of applications within the target timeline.
“Of more than 1800 applications finalised in the September quarter, 95 per cent were finalised within target timelines,” Mrs de Jong said.
The September quarter Approvals Performance Report is available now on the DMP website.
Majority of applications to DMP are now submitted online.
