Coolgardie residents are invited to attend a community workshop on rehabilitation plans for the former Pro-Force gold processing site about 2 km east of the town.
The workshop organised by the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) and the Shire of Coolgardie will be held at the Coolgardie Recreation Centre from 5-6.30pm on Friday, 19 August.
Calling for a good turnout, DMP Executive Director Environment Dr Phil Gorey said the interactive workshop was a crucial step in DMP’s work with the Shire to rehabilitate the Pro-Force site.
“We are going to improve the safety and visual amenity on the main entrance into Coolgardie from Kambalda and need to hear from local residents and other stakeholders to get input into the site’s rehabilitation plans,” Dr Gorey said.
“The old processing plant has been successfully removed, so now the community has the opportunity to contribute to rehabilitation plans for the site.”
The Pro-Force site was selected as a pilot site to be rehabilitated through DMP’s Abandoned Mines Program, which is funded by the Mining Rehabilitation Fund.
