DMIRS responds to initial Mining Amendment feedback

The department has released a supporting information sheet to help stakeholders
Date: Tuesday, 15 June 2021

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has published additional information to support stakeholders as part of the Streamlining (Mining Amendment) Bill 2021 consultation process.

The Bill aims to make legislative changes to improve efficiencies for the applications and assessment of environmental approvals under the Mining Act 1978 and support economic recovery following COVID-19.

DMIRS Acting Executive Director Resource and Environmental Compliance Dan Endacott said the department has hosted a number of information sessions across the State to provide industry with a thorough overview of the key concepts within the Bill.

“As part of the information sessions, we have received feedback asking for clarity on the transitional period, the possible structure of a mining development and closure proposal, and how the proposed low impact notification framework would interact with Aboriginal Heritage legislation,” said Mr Endacott.

“The supporting information document aims to provide clarity on these matters.”

To provide submission on the Bill, a feedback form is available here and all submissions should be emailed to REC.Consultation@dmirs.wa.gov.au by Friday 25 June 2021.
