DMP fortunate to have a new Minister with such an impressive civilian and military background, says Director General Richard Sellers.

Department of Mines and Petroleum Director General Richard Sellers has welcomed the appointment of new Minister Sean L’Estrange.
“We are indeed fortunate to have someone with such an impressive academic record and distinguished military career as our new Minister and I am looking forward to working with him,” Mr Sellers said.
Mr L’Estrange was appointed this week as the Minister for Mines and Petroleum by Premier Colin Barnett as part of a State Cabinet restructure.
Mr L’Estrange is a highly qualified management professional and a soldier with a distinguished career that includes active service in Afghanistan. He continues to serve as a Colonel in the Army Reserve.
Born in Perth in 1967, Mr L’Estrange holds a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership, a Graduate Diploma of Management, a Graduate Diploma of Resource Management, a Bachelors Degree of Education and a Diploma of Teaching.
He is also a graduate of the Australian Army Command and Staff College in Canberra.
For six years before entering State Parliament in 2013 as the Member for Churchlands, Mr L’Estrange established and operated a leadership and management consultancy.
Mr Sellers paid tribute to outgoing Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion and wished him well in his new position as State Development Minister.
“Bill Marmion’s contribution to DMP and Western Australia during his tenure as Mines and Petroleum Minister has been outstanding,” he said.
“He presided over DMP during one of its most challenging and rewarding periods and leaves knowing that the State is today recognised internationally as the world’s best investment destination.”
