Following the release of the new Guideline for Mining Proposals in April 2016, the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) is hosting a Stakeholder Forum to provide additional information.
Covering the key aspects of the new Guideline, the workshop will look at recent learnings from the first completed assessments and will provide examples of risk assessments and environmental outcomes. The scope and the agenda of the forums are focused on larger scale mining operations. The Department is planning for additional stakeholder forums to focus on smaller scale operations and DMP will provide further details of these in coming weeks.
Director Operations, Environment Dr Marnie Leybourne said the new Guideline became compulsory for new projects as of 1 January 2017.
"The Guideline is part of the Reforming Environmental Regulation (RER) strategy and introduces a risk and outcome based regulatory framework for Mining Proposals," Dr Leybourne said.
"The forum will give stakeholders the opportunity to engage in a discussion about the Department’s expectations for the new Guideline and how DMP will undertake assessments."
The sessions are being held on 22 and 24 February at DMP’s Perth office on Plain Street East Perth and a regional session will also be held in Kalgoorlie on 28 February. A detailed agenda will be distributed prior to the events.
The forums are free to attend but attendees must register as space is limited. To register, please click on the relevant date below:
