Dangerous Goods safety on display at Open Day

Dangerous Goods officers from the Department of Mines and Petroleum will highlight their role in regulating dangerous goods to protect the Western Australian public at the 2015 ChemCentre Open Day.

Officers from the department’s Dangerous Goods Safety Branch will be on hand at the annual event to take part in the Hazards and Heroes display.

Team Leader Dangerous Goods Officer Erin James said the event was an opportunity to educate the community about the department’s role.

“These events give us an opportunity to take our safety messages direct to the community,” Miss James said.

“Every day people interact, one way or another, with dangerous goods – from the trucks transporting dangerous goods across the State, to the chemicals in our homes.

“Our goal is to make sure people are aware of the safety issues around dangerous goods.

“This Saturday’s Open Day is the perfect opportunity to highlight how the community is protected from dangerous goods.”

Last year saw about 3000 people attend the Open Day at the ChemCentre’s Bentley headquarters.
