New mapping system earns praise from test group

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety’s (DMIRS) new online mapping system is now publicly available.
After earning praise in the past few weeks from the majority of users in a test group, TENGRAPH Web is now available for all of the 14,000-plus users of DMIRS’ current system, which DMIRS Mineral Titles Executive Director Dr Ivor Roberts said the new browser-based system provided a seamless coverage of the entire State.
“The new TENGRAPH Web does everything the old system could do, but also has a whole new set of features that make it a more modern, business-oriented system than TENGRAPH Online, which has been in operation since 1992,” he said.
“This new system has a strong focus on tenements and approvals and can also be used to create maps of a very high quality.”
Dr Roberts said that TENGRAPH Web shared commonalities with DMIRS’ interactive geological system, GeoVIEW.WA, so it would not be a completely new experience for many people.
“However, we appreciate that some people take time to get used to a new way of doing things, so we will be running the old system in tandem during the introductory period.”
A survey of users who helped to test the new system showed that 74 per cent thought it was “better or much better” than TENGRAPH Online, and 87 per cent thought it was “equal or better”.
At the moment, TENGRAPH Web supports Internet Explorer versions 9, 10 and 11 browsers, but future releases will include support for other browsers.
