Following a comprehensive public consultation process in 2017, the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has released its latest guidance for stakeholders on excess tonnage procedures for exploration.
DMIRS’ Acting Executive Director Resource and Environmental Compliance Karen Caple said the document clarifies the relationship between excess tonnage and the Programme of Work (PoW) application process.
“It is intended to reinforce that excess tonnage can only be requested for genuine exploration or prospecting, rather than for mining, and highlights the need for applicants to show how excess tonnage does not interfere with the rights of others with an interest in the land,” Ms Caple said.
The procedure document is available on the department’s website. DMIRS wishes to thank all contributors and its stakeholders who provided feedback.
