Feedback sought on draft Annual Environment Report guidelines

AER guidelines amended to assist with online submissions
Date: Tuesday, 23 September 2014

Feedback period for amendments to AER guidelines is open until 7 October

The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) is seeking stakeholder feedback on revised guidelines to assist with the submission of online Annual Environment Reports (AER).

DMP Executive Director Environment, Phil Gorey, explained that the guidelines have been revised as DMP no longer accepts hard copy submission of AERs.

DMP has required online submission of AERs via the Environment and Assessment Regulatory System (EARS2) since 1 July 2013.

“AER guidelines have been revised to assist industry operators with the information required in support of an online AER submission,” said Mr Gorey.

“While the overall intent of the guidelines is unchanged, key sections relating to the presentation of disturbance data have been revised to align with the reporting requirements of the Mining Rehabilitation Fund.

“Mine Activity Types, formerly known as ‘Disturbance Types’, have been redefined and Rehabilitation Category Stages have been reclassified to meet the requirements of the Mining Rehabilitation Fund Regulations 2013.

“This information is now consolidated in the ‘Mine Activity Areas’ section of the AER.”

Most mining operations are required to submit an AER as directed by their tenement conditions.

The draft guidelines are available on the DMP website and feedback can be provided until 7 October 2014.

Feedback on the guidelines should be sent to AERguidelines@dmp.wa.gov.au.
