The full list of companies and prospectors eligible for co-funding in Round 13 of the Exploration Incentive Scheme’s Co-funded Drilling Program is featured in the latest edition of Fieldnotes.
The offer of $5.14 million in co-funding was announced recently by Mines and Petroleum Minister Sean L’Estrange.
Now in its eighth year, the program has offered co-funding to more than 640 projects, of which 320 have been completed, resulting in more than 470,000 kilometres of drilling across Western Australia and over 20 new discoveries.
In a special two-page report on the Kimberley Science and Conservation Strategy’s Dambimangari regolith geochemistry project, Fieldnotes gives details on two sets of explanatory notes from the project that have now been released.
This part of the Kimberley is best known for the iron ore deposits developed on the Cockatoo and Kulin Islands, although copper, uranium, gold and heavy mineral sands deposits are also found.
The regional regolith programs of the Geological Society of Western Australia (GSWA), which aim to draw attention to the mineralisation potential of greenfields areas, have usually been carried out within or on the margins of Archean cratons or Proterozoic orogens.
However, Fieldnotes reports that in a recent departure from this practice, the latest of these programs – carried out in the Ngururrpa country south of Halls Creek – has sampled regolith covering Proterozoic to Mesozoic sedimentary rocks of the Murraba and Canning Basins.
Fieldnotes also covers:
- The characterisation and correlation of Canning Basin lower Permian strata
- The geology and geochronology of the Warlawurru Supersuite and MacDougall Formation
- The hydrogeochemistry and biogeochemistry of the northern Yilgarn Craton and its margins
- An update on GSWA’s regional geophysics surveys
- The 2015 Southwest Yilgarn gravity survey
