The Western Australian Government announced support for nickel producers through royalty relief in February 2024.
The Nickel Financial Assistance Program will provide a 50 per cent rebate on royalties paid on nickel sales each quarter from the March quarter 2024 through to the June quarter 2025.
The rebate will be provided if the average price of nickel in concentrate is below US$20,000 per tonne for a given quarter. The rebate will then be repayable by the recipients in equal quarterly instalments over the following 24 months.
All applications must be made to the Minister for Mines and Petroleum, and applicants must outline the need for support. This includes information on finances and projected economics, as well as steps taken to adjust to the current nickel price environment and structural changes in the industry.
Full application details for the program are available in the Nickel Financial Assistance Program - Guidelines for Applications.
