Erica Smyth awarded prestigious Companion of the Order of Australia in this year’s Queen’s Birthday honours.

Erica Smyth was one of only 10 Australians and the only Western Australian to receive the prestigious Companion of the Order of Australia in this year’s Queens Birthday honours.
An inaugural member of the Community Partnership Resources Sector Awards Selection Committee, Ms Smyth has been recognised for her service to the community through corporate governance roles with charitable, medical research, higher education, nuclear scientific and technology organisations, the minerals exploration sector, and to women in business.
Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety Executive Director, Resource Tenure, Rick Rogerson said Ms Smyth’s service to the mining industry in particular is invaluable.
“Ms Smyth has made a considerable contribution to the mining sector in Western Australia and we congratulate her on joining a very prestigious group of people,” Mr Rogerson said.
“She continues to mentor and support initiatives such as our Community Partnership Resources Sector Award, sharing her experience and helping to build a stronger and more socially responsible resources sector.”
“We’d also like to take the opportunity to thanks Ms Smyth for her many contributions and working with the State government, sitting on numerous resource industry advisory panels including the Petroleum Industry Advisory Council, as well as a judge for the Golden Gecko environmental excellence award.”
Ms Smyth is one of four Selection Committee members for the Community Partnership Resources Sector Award. Other Committee members include the department’s Director General David Smith, former CEO of LotteryWest, Jan Stewart and Social Responsibility and Community Relations Strategist, Allan James.
