Industry representatives have attended a series of technical workshops held by the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) to support the drafting of Western Australia’s new regulations for greenhouse gas injection and storage.
These regulations will help facilitate implementation of the Petroleum Legislation Amendment Act 2024 (the Amendment Act), which passed through Parliament in May 2024.
The workshops were attended by representatives of private entities, consultants and industry associations, with the purpose of working through and providing input on technical matters related to the new regulations.
DEMIRS Resource and Environmental Compliance Executive Director Tyler Sujdovic said industry was best placed to provide this technical input, in what will be a new industry for WA.
“The department would like to thank the participants who have contributed their time and knowledge towards the development of regulations for this evolving industry,” Mr Sujdovic said.
“With strong attendance and robust discussions, these workshops provide a technical foundation to build efficient and effective regulations for this industry.”
The new greenhouse gas injection and storage regulations are intended to take effect with commencement of the Amendment Act in 2025.
