Department to explore new opportunities to reflect a changing industry

The Resources Sector Awards for Excellence, comprising the Golden Gecko Award and Community Partnership Award, have recognised outstanding leadership and achievements in environmental management practices as well as positive community and resource industry relationships.
Since the first Golden Gecko awards were presented in 1992, the resources sector has experienced significant social and environmental changes both nationally and globally.
For this reason, DEMIRS has chosen to pause its Resources Sector Awards for Excellence recognition program in 2024 to explore new directions that better reflect and acknowledge Western Australia’s resources sector – its diversity, new technologies and advancements in clean energy that strengthen the sector’s environmental responsibilities and connections with communities. DEMIRS intends to return with a refreshed awards program in 2025.
DEMIRS acknowledges all previous outstanding finalists and recipients of the Resources Sector Awards for Excellence demonstrated that Western Australia’s world-class mineral and petroleum industries are not only sustainable but also committed to setting new standards for the benefit of all Western Australians.
