Compliance officers gain valuable knowledge visiting Goldfields sites

Our Resource and Environmental Compliance (REC) officers were out and about in the Goldfields recently, undertaking site inspections, training, and enhancing their familiarity with operations in the area.
While undertaking their routine compliance program, a team of environmental officers responsible for assessing and regulating mining projects in the Goldfields used the inspections as a learning experience to deepen their understanding of the environmental management and rehabilitation of sites within the region.
The team visited five diverse gold and rare earth processing sites, which enabled them to see first-hand the different aspects of mine operations. This included new greenfields sites versus more established operations, large-scale gold mining operations compared to smaller scale operations, as well as traditional gold Carbon-in-Pulp processing as opposed to heap leach processing.
The visits prompted the team to discuss the environmental management and rehabilitation challenges and successes for all sites within the region.
Meanwhile, the new principal investigations officers were also in the region for training, site visits and to connect with stakeholders, including WA Police’s Gold Stealing Detection Unit. Read more about how these officers will help boost compliance and enforcement against unauthorised mining.
