For the first time, the Commonwealth government agencies responsible for the regulation of the offshore petroleum industry will be presenting at WA Petroleum Day in an expanded format.
The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator (NOPTA) and National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) will join the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) to discuss international trends, updates in policy and regulation and decommissioning.
DMIRS Executive Director for Geoscience and Resource Strategy, Jeff Haworth said the expanded format will give an insight into offshore and onshore operators in WA and culminate in a panel discussion on the role of gas in WA’s future energy mix.
“We’re committed to collaborating with the Commonwealth and ensuring the WA petroleum industry understand the different policies and regulations that affect their operations, how they differ and why,” Mr Haworth said.
“This year’s panel session is shaping up to be a very timely discussion in light of the recent changes in Canberra. It’s the right time to review the situation in WA and open the conversation about the future energy mix. The State Government is currently conducting energy supply modelling in the south west and we’ll take a look at how renewables and gas will fit into the future supply chain.”
Industry expert, Ted Surette from KPMG Australia will be facilitating the session, which will bring together representatives from the Public Utilities Office, Synergy, Chevron, Woodside and DMIRS.
WA Petroleum Day will be held on Friday, 14 September at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in East Perth. Tickets are $110, including morning and afternoon tea, lunch and sundowner. Tickets are available online at www.dmirs.wa.gov.au/wapetroleumday
